Archie, after reading Mary's letter, is visited by Lily. She says she had no way of knowing she would not see him again, and urged him to come to the garden.

Back home without notifying anyone, Archie and Neville go to the garden looking for the children; suddenly, the wheelchair bursts onto the scene, with Colin pushing Mary. Archie and Neville are stunned, and it is soon obvious that Neville's “treatment” is not responsible.

Archie can show Colin the affection he needs at last; free of the fear he felt that he would lose his son and have to face more pain.

Archie and Colin welcome Mary as part of the family, and Archie tells Mary the garden is now hers.

The entire cast assembles for the final song, followed by bows to the audience.
