Lieutenant Wright and Major Holmes are stunned to find
Mary Lennox; alive and apparently well when everyone else on
the estate has died from cholera.

Mrs. Medlock (the housekeeper) and Mary wait for the train after Mary is brought to England by Major Shelley and his wife.

At Misselthwaite; Dr. Craven (Neville) tries to convince his brother Archibald (who inherited the estate) to at least greet Mary after her trip of 6000 miles.

As Mrs. Medlock and Mary prepare to climb the stairs to her room, Mary's parents, Rose and Albert, appear as dreamers in the background.

Mary hears crying late in the night, and comes downstairs with her candle to find the source.

Archie is also downstairs with a candle, surrounded by the dreamers, including his wife Lily.
