Rick has aroused sympathy in Clelia with his story of a girl he proposed to on the playground; until he mentions that the girl was eight and he was thirty. The mood changed quickly.

Rick is explaining the game “shoes and socks”. It begins with everyone taking off their shoes and socks.

The next step is to put a bag over your head with one eyehole; Ticky (Mr. Waldgrave) has his eyehole too high, and Clelia is assisting him.

Clelia finally decides on tearing the bag so it will settle lower, after Rick nearly puts Ticky's eye out trying to punch a hole with his finger.

In his fury and humiliation, Ticky shouts out; “I own eight hotels; why am I standing here with a bag on my head, a swelling eye, and no shoes or socks?” Willum attempts to calm him by offering design changes to the new hotel.
Axel seems disappointed.

Stage three of this game involves Rick hiding the bag of shoes, while everyone hums and spins; he chooses the ledge outside the window as his hiding place.

Stage four involves reading from the Bible; stunned to find out Willum has no Bible, Rick says “that's it, I guess”; then knocks the bag of shoes out the window into a pond while trying to retrieve them from the ledge.

Willum is so distraught over how things are going, he asks Tansy to stay the night. She reacts as if it's a trap. We hear Ticky (with Rick's help) fall in the pond outside.

Frustrated at the night's events, Willum picks up the monster head and throws it into the bedroom. Thor rushes out screaming; sees the rest of the costume hanging in the closet, and passes out on the couch. Knowing her parents are about to come back wet and angry, Willum hides Thor in the closet.

Ticky could not be much more angry or hostile, as he paws through globs of algae to sort out the soggy shoes.
