Ronnette, Chiffon, and Crystal; called “the urchins” by Mushnik, sing the opening intro to skid row life. |
Seymour falls on stage in front of a sympathetic Audrey, and an angry Mushnik. |
Crystal confronts Mushnik about his negative attitude. |
All of the local denizens appear on stage to continue the ballad about life on “the row”. |
They are a diverse group, including a flasher and a guy who lives in the sewer! |
The final refrain is performed from behind a chain link fence, to symbolize closed shops and urban decay. |
The next scene is of Mushnik and his staff posing in various spots as the clock ticks away the day without a single customer. |
Mushnik has finally had enough, and announces he is out of business; Audrey encourages Seymour to bring out the special plant he has been developing. |
Mushnik scoffs at the idea of the “strange and unusual” plant in the window, but is overjoyed when the display draws in a customer! |
Asked by the customer, Seymour tells everyone the story of finding the plant in the cart of the Chinese man following a solar eclipse. |
