Despite what he has done, Hamlet is still her son, and gets a mother's comfort.

Gertrude, in turn, comes to her husband for comfort.

Claudius calls for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, and orders them to seize Hamlet.

While Hamlet confronts Rosencrantz, Guildenstern comes quietly from behind....

....and get seizes Hamlet, taking his sword.

Hamlet, thrown before the King, babbles oddly....

....calling Claudius his “mother”. He then strides from the room and shouts; “To England”, followed by Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

Osric brings Ophelia before the King and Queen, where she dances about and sings strange songs.

It is soon obvious to all that this is no act, but is true madness at the loss of her love and her father in such short order.

Laertes has heard of his fathers death, and storms in with vengeance in mind.

Laertes believes the King is somehow responsible, and holds him at sword point as the Queen tries reasoning.

When Ophelia dances in, quite mad, Laertes is overcome with grief, and lays down his sword
